Winter's wrath continues....

Aaahhh, winter is not done with us yet....after having temperatures in the 60's on friday, today we woke to snow once again.  Yes, I know...it's february but I can still wish for an early spring...lol.

Soon the farmers will be plowing the fields around us and we'll be putting in our own garden.  Fresh veggies are so great to have on hand and being able to go into your own garden and pick what you've grown with your own two hands is even more rewarding.

As I look outside now I see snow covering trees, bushes, houses....but in a very short time, I know it will be green grass and flowers blooming  :)

38 days...

Oh yes, only 38 days til the first day of spring....I can't wait!  As you can tell, spring is my most favorite time of the year....the grass turning green, the flowers start blooming, birds chirping outside the windows....yes, spring is a wonderful time of year :)

Anticipation....

Oh the anticipation of spring.....the smell of fresh grass, the planting of flowers, the warm sunshine on our faces :) .  We love spring, it's our favorite time of year.

Do you do special things when the weather turns warm?  I know we do, it's time to open the windows and air the house out, time to wipe everything down & get rid of all the winter build up of dust and staleness.  All the afgans get put away for next winter and the light throws are brought out, the freezer is cleaned out & awaits fresh new veggies from the garden from the upcoming season.

Spring is such a great time of year, after being cooped up all winter in the house, it feels so good to go outside without running to the car and back to avoid the cold.  Soon will be the time of planning our gardens, planting pretty flowers, freshening things up and planning our summer activities.

40 days until spring everyone, now that puts a smile on my face :)

2010 Garden

2010's garden.
What an awesome garden I had last year, everything grew so well and we had a bountiful harvest. My freezer was stocked for the winter with an abundance of beans, greens, peppers, stewed tomatoes, etc. It's so rewarding to start with a bare ground but with work, patience and some common sense you can enjoy the taste of fresh veggies and stock your freezer as well.

43 days til spring

Yes, I am counting down to spring....I have been since before the holidays....lol...can't help myself, it's my favorite season of the year.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands in the dirt again to plant flowers and veggies. I love having a garden, it's so great to have fresh veggies to eat all summer and have some put up in the freezer for the cold winter season to come.

Distorted Earth

My dauther in law and son also have a shop on Etsy creating wonderful wire wrapped jewelry in all price ranges and styles. You can check them out at   DistortedEarth.etsy.com

A little about me....

My name is Cindy Moncrief and I am mother to three terrific sons and Memaw to one awesome little grandson :)

I am a lifelong artist that has dabbled in all forms of art over the years. My favorite mediums are fiber art...creating hats, scarves, accessories & such and also painting....anything from wood items to canvas's.

At this time I have a shop on etsy selling my handmade tams, dread bands, headbands, cowls, etc.   In the near future I will be opening a shop  called Gnarly Notions where I will be offering all things hippie ...tie dye shirts and accessories, hemp jewelry, hand painted trinkets boxes and the like....I am very excited about opening this second shop as I will be able to expand my imagination even more.

I love to work with my hands and am usually crocheting something at any given time.   My crochet experience goes back 30 plus years and I still get excited when I pick out new colors & yarns for a new project :)

If you'd like to check out my shop on etsy please go to

Gnarly Notions....my brain child....

Hi there and welcome to my Gnarly Notions blog, here you will find all things hippie and about living green.
My name is Cindy and I live in the deep south of NJ, surrounded by meadows, countryside and the bay. It's such a beautiful place to live with friendly people, no traffic lights and awesome scenery all around.

This blog will contain my thoughts & ideas about living green & living simple, my hippie ways of living, random pics of whatever catches my eye :) , posts about artists making handmade items and so on.....I'm sure I'll jump from subject to subject and some days post more often then others but I will certainly be rambling on....

I hope you will join my blog and continue with me on these thoughts of living more like "back in the day" :)
